Our seasonal features are divided between, gifts (Christmas presents 2017), events/pantomimes and other holiday related material. Our two most popular categories are Christmas jobs and Christmas recipes. We generally put the Kent Christmas guide together in the autumn but we are open to receive submission for possible inclusion throughout the year. Over the last 15 years the quality and quantity of Kentish Christmas features has changed to reflect the needs and wants of our users, but our goal is still to provide relevant local information that informs and/or entertains. We are always interested in local material and our coverage is deliberately quirky and eclectic, we like to feature events big and small, everything from spectacular headline pantomimes to village hall Christmas productions. The same goes for our other features, anything that’s happening on your high street or community that is newsworthy with a Christmas theme is likely to be of interest to us.
Christmas Features For 2017
By popular demand we will by publishing Christmas Tree suggestion and recommendations, where ever possible with a local Kentish flavour.
We will continue to develop our Christmas Carol resources. As well as a historical perspective we examine the role and relevance of carols in the modern era and link to local choirs and carol concerts across Kent.
We will still feature Christmas hampers in 2017. As well as sharing ideas and suggestions we will be linking to produce available in Kent or ‘made in’ Kent.
Our dedicated Christmas events guide has been running for many years. We have an extensive pantomime feature, which includes some explanations about the traditions of this particular form of seasonal entertainment detailing its origins and history.
We will also be reviewing our features looking at how to decorate a Christmas tree, arrange a party or make brilliant Christmas light displays inside and out (featuring some of the most spectacular private Christmas light displays in the county).
We still maintain our Christmas recipes but these are now published in our Kentish Cooking section.
If you’re looking for more Xmas resources you might also like to know that Yourcounty has been running successful Christmas Job features covering; Kent, Medway as well as Bromley.
Christmas Presents 2017
There is no ‘best’ present for everyone, this is something of an illusion, however we like to look at popular and inspiring present suggestions and where apposite link them to local themes and retailers. In the UK it is possible to chart the best selling toy presents into a ‘top ten’ of gifts. But even in the case of a ‘must have’ present it won’t suit everyone. If you have a suggestion or recommendation please let us know. Our feedback details are at the foot of the page.

Kent is known as the garden of England, which suggests a strong bias towards agriculture but this is far from the truth, particularly in the north of the county. The main industries in the north-west of Kent historically have included: light engineering, construction, cement, paper making and aircraft construction, there are oil refinery facilities on the Isle of Grain and some steel production and brick-making activity in Mid and North Kent.
With the advent of the high speed rail links into London over half the population finds itself less than an hour commuting time from central London and there is a growing commuter belt that now includes both Ashford and Canterbury.
In the south and east; agriculture, tourism and education (particularly in Canterbury) complement each other as platforms for the rural and coastal economies and there is a small but growing influence of offshore wind based power generation. Regeneration projects are being carried out within the Thames Gateway by Kent Thameside Delivery Board, Medway Renaissance Partnership and Swale Forward. There is a continued emphasis in the transport sector within the county, significant investment has taken place in the Port of Dover, London Ashford Airport. Cross channel traffic remains an important commercial catalyst for the east coast. The Turner Contemporary in Margate, the New Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury and arts focused developments in Folkestone and Thanet have been part of the drive to stimulate the growth of creative industries.
These links are regularly checked but if you find any are broken or out of date please let us know. We include Medway, Bexley and Bromley in our coverage. Listings provided for information purposes only. All inquiries about this page to email@example.com.
